I was pretty impressed by their custom cable sleeves demonstration last year. It Makes me want to try it myself.

Awesome!!! Just out of curiosity... say we don't have metal engravers and water jets, but a friend does are we able to get help from them in a mod, or would that violate the rules ?

I know this will upset certain people but you dont need expensive tools to put out a winning machine. Laser cutters and cnc mills are a dream for all of us... All of my projects so far have been made using typical shop hand and power tools.

I totally agree, but if you have access to one of these it can make the process a breeze. I am lucky to have a friend who owns a shop and I am able to get his help.

Not sure who that would upset, but whoever it is is now officially off my Christmas card list.

I didn't want to speak out of turn, as your question seemed to be directed to AmericanFreak directly, but the answer to your question is yes. I had a couple of the pieces in my entry laser-cut by a third party.

Anything is allowed and I will tell you we NEVER base any mod off of how much you spend. We have all been modding for so many years and we know what it takes to build a mod by hand. Me that is how I build all my mods. I enjoy making every cut and paint stroke.
It about having fun and meeting people that have the same interest and sharing what we know.

Oh, BTW we are now over the $15,000 mark of prizes to the winners and raffle giveaways at the booth! Come by see all the stuff we got and chat a while!

PLEASE say thank you our sponsors as some of them will also be in the vendor area as without it would impossible to give you some kick butt hardware!

true facts. After all, the first place scratch build last year had a stock intel cpu cooler on it, the 2nd place build was made for under $100. When we won with the Fallout Terminal in 2012 we spent $60 on that. It just happened to be that the best case mod last year in the classic category happened to be a $12,000 computer or so. My build this year is under $500 in budget and my friend has kept his under $100 yet again.

How essential is cable sleeving? That task is a BEAST!

If you are doing a "classic" case mod, its pretty much essential. For the other two categories I would say less so, but the judges give good points for sleeving because its a tedious process.
